This book has an awesome collection of information

This book has an awesome collection of information, spans the breadth of jet engine technology and has a fantastic collection of pictures. I like the strategy of starting off with some history and discussing the main aspects of design and finally covering each jet engine component in more detail. Over all, this book does an excellent job of covering the necessary details without becoming too textbookish.

What really makes it hard to read is the poor editing, repeated redundant information and unnecessary pictures that do not add value. To give an example of a random picture to fill out space, take for example the chapter on performance, Pg 78, there is a useless picture of 5 identical planes flying in formation. Every other picture (not referenced which is very irksome) is a performance map. Most figures are not numbered or referenced, so if you were reading your first jet engine book, you would be frustrated because you would find it difficult to easily grasp things.If you find CFD images or contour plots, they do not mention what is being plotted, for example in page 172, the picture is titled 'flow field analysis of a cavity in an internal system", there is no indication of what physical quantity is being displayed, how the colors map to magnitudes, making this picture meaningless!

An example of a conceptual mistake (IMO) is on page 14, the author says " When the nozzle is choked Vjet is fixed at Mach 1" where Vjet is the exit gas flow speed in the equation (F = W(Vjet - Vflight) + A(rho_exit - rho_inlet) . There two things wrong here:
- Vjet is velocity and not the dimensionless Mach number
- When a jet engine nozzle gets choked, it is the the Mach number at the throat that is Mach 1 and in usual operating conditions, the nozzle exit Mach number is supersonic (about 2)
This blunder early on and several others makes it really difficult to trust what the author has to say later.

My advice to the publishers and editors:Most people who will buy this book and pay $70 for it will mostly be aviation enthusiasts or Aerospace engineers (like myself) that hope to add an excellent book to their collection. We already know a good portion of the information and it is difficultl to get through the book in its present form. Therefore, in future revisions, please do the following:

- Revisit the information to make sure you have all the facts right, especially concepts
- Remove unnecessary pictures, instead elaborate on the existing information, make it more readable and add references to pictures.

Newbie beware - many errors ahead!

Although this book is written for the new Matlab programmer, the number of errors (coding and grammatical) will lead the newbie astray. I gave up partway through the book because I did not know whether the errors I saw in my code were my own, or a result of the poor code examples in the book.

Must have, if you really want to know her..viva Frida!

Perfect, i highly recoomend this book. I read it b years ago amd bought it here for a great price. If you love frida, you will love her diary. Studying her photos in her journal gave me alot of information and perspectivw on her spiritual amd life experiences. I found frida at the lowest point of my life, bedbound and very sick. She gave me hope while identifying her pain thru her paintings. An absolure must. I finally did my frida art piece based on her paintings and journal.
(Not 4 sale, it goes to charity. )

i love frida kahlo, but i don't think this is a good translation of her diaries.

i do not feel this is a good translation of her diaries and i also feel that a lot of artistic license was taken by the author. i honestly don't feel this should have been made so available to the general public in the form that it takes. the translation from spanish to english, is at times, poor. And, the "interpretations" of what the artist "meant" when she said or wrote certain things takes great license and assumes that the author had a microscope into the brain of kahlo. She was a complex women who was in a lot of pain towards the end and this diary reflects that, as well as how much medication she was on. i feel that it's just an all around inappropriate and inconsiderate translation of her last works.

The introduction was a beautiful glimpse into the beginning of a journey that "The Diary of Frida Kahlo" took me on. One of logic, passion, bits of pain, humor, love and the confusion of which art tries to help us cope with issues we find unbearable to ever comprehend. A daily read for me whether it be if I can only fit in a few minutes of my favorite parts of have the leisure of enjoying the whole body of the book. Love isn't a strong enough word for how much I enjoy it but will have to do, I love it a great deal. Recommend it to anyone looking to mix the beauty of images with the gorgeous mind of a poet as I find most of the journal entries of her's were.

Smart and Witty with New and Familiar Faces from the Series

"Becoming Forever" is the second installment in the Waking Forever Series. Though "Becoming" follows a new protagonist, Ash, who has the wit and determination standard to a McVea lead character, the homicide detective has nerves of steel that make her even more endearing. The supporting characters are great comic relief, especially Ash's best friend Alan. (I love Alan!) There is even a brief love triangle between Ash and two beautiful women: Emma the Medical Examiner and Lara the blind date. The sexual tension is on the rise.
But perhaps the most interesting feature of McVea's new novel is the reintroduction of familiar faces and events. The story starts with the murder of Paul Garrett from "Waking Forever," something followers of the series know all too well. As a result, we have a brief interaction with Sarah and Rachel, and of course, Ela. Overall, an engaging and quick read, ending on a cliffhanger that leaves me excited for the last installment in the Waking Series!

A Gem Among Stones

Again, I was surprised to see how little this book actually cost. I had barely finished with "Waking Forever" when I bought this. I had just begun to read the teaser for it at the end of WF and read Ashley Haines' name. From the moment I read her name and description in WF I hoped that she would be brought back.

Now here she is again and we get to learn more about her back story and how she became involved in WF. I am truly excited about what this book has brought to the table in the way of the supernatural beings. Of course we had learned of the Lycans from Rachel in WF, but getting a better peek into their world in this installment has been great.

I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the challenges that face the women in this book are what I would call believable in the world the story has created, and I couldn't help but cheer and laugh out loud at the 'shifting' scene near the end of the book. Heather McVea must have a wonderful imagination and I can't wait to see what she dreams up for the next book in this series.
The way this one ended...I'm waiting with bated breath for August.

Original and wonderful

I had read the first book in this series, Waking Forever, and really liked it. The characters were interesting and the plot flowed well. I hesitated for a second to buy Becoming Forever because of a review about it being too much like the first book, and I’ve definitely had issues with that in books by other authors.
I’m glad I went ahead with the purchase!
Okay, so some key story points DO overlap between the two books in the series, but it’s important that they do! (I don’t want to say too much about that and spoil the story.) And Becoming Forever is a fantastic story on its own. The two protagonists are into each other right away, so there is not the uncertainty of Is she gay? Or isn’t she? thing that drove part of the first book. That means we can go straight into the action of the second book.A lot more is happening in Becoming Forever - I’ll just say, lycans and shifters! - and the author moves you through the book seamlessly, all the way up to the cliffhanger ending. There’s more humor in this book, too (wait for the super funny scene involving a German Shepherd.) I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Highly Recommend This Book!

What a great book! Only disappointed I didn't pick it up sooner.

I've been training for a while, but decided to try out this routine because I needed a change, I've never actually done a full body workout (Flex magazine was my teacher in my young days...*sigh*), and they incorporate compound movements so I knew the program would be effective. That said, I LOVE the results I'm getting doing this routine.

My diet is already clean - and pretty much follows the one written. Anyone serious about getting results should be able to follow something similar. (I consider coconut oil a good fat).

This is the PERFECT book for anyone who wants to learn the proper exercise technique/form. The information is clear, the pictures are excellent and if you decide to do the routine, everything is clearly referenced so it's easy to flip to that page if you don't know how do to the exercise. They also have youtube videos of how to do the exercises, and from their facebook page James and Hugo are very responsive to anyone who needs help, etc.

Two things I don't like about this book:
- the cover, why does she not have anything on? seriously though, who wants to walk around with that
- the first routine has squats at the end - not sure the reasoning behind this, but I always do my compound movements first

(I received my answer from Hugo himself: In regards to the squats, it is good to sometimes have compound exercises at the end as in this manner you shock the body and you get faster results.) I will be trying it this way :)

Highly recommend this book (did I already mention that?)

Love this program.. can be done in your living room

I just started the first breaking in workout today and I really enjoyed it. I was able to do the program and I feel worked out adequately. I am an obese woman so that if I can do the program pretty much anyone can do the program if you can stand and get a few dumbbells. It is really good because the program is fun and it requires so little equipment that it can be done in your living room. No gym is required. This book has really helped me see how to train at home so I will not be injured and also so I will make gains. I did not know before reading this book that giant sets were extremely difficult and should be used for short periods of time. I had heard that it was better to do one thing after the other if you are trying to lose weight.

Each chapter has a topic. There are introductory chapters to the program, a mental preparation chapter, training chapter, nutrition chapter, rest and recovery chapter, exercise chapter, and the programs are at the end of the book. It looks like the programs will take you from beginner to advanced and beyond. There is a lot of good advice and it is given in a friendly manner. Some of it is hard to hear but the tone is not too overbearing or judgmental. They gave a program that lowers burnout as well. I tend to rush into exercise and then get hurt and burn out. With this I should not. The programs advance at a nice slow pace and begin at the very beginning.

The problem with the book is that some of the information sounds a bit dated. Also, the abs information is pretty limited. I tend to hurt myself doing abs so I would like to know how to get them stronger when they are very weak and tend to lead to injury. I am looking forward to achieving some good results.

Oh, and some fitness professionals claim that women do not need to train any differently than men. I don't think that is true. Men do not tend to get cellulite and they want muscular upper bodies and tend to care less about their legs and butt. Women tend to be the opposite. They want a little muscle in their arms, shoulders, and chest and a very strong, firm, cellulite free lower body.

While I do like this book and have found good information within its pages, I feel that the Kindle version is not that great. Each workout spans four-five pages, which makes it hard to read and navigate, let alone do when you're trying to go through the workout. It's hard to focus on your workout when you have to keep scrolling. To me, they should create an app that is mobile friendly and can be a quick reference guide for when you are working out.

Excellent resource

This book is one of very few giving advice on where to see Australia's unique mammalian fauna.
It is made up of three main sections. Split between the first and very last part is advice on watching mammals in general and travel tips. These are quite brief.
Then comes a detailed state by state overview of key mammal watching sites, pointing out key species that can ir might be seen at each. This is pretty good, though I would have found it better if accompanied by at least basic maps of each site. There are also additional boxed texts on seeing the most popular species, as well as bats or whales in each state.
The second half is a species by species overview of Australia's mammals, with comments on where each one might be seen. The latter is usually just a list of key spots/reserves, and in the case of elusive, small mammals unlikely to be actually seen, notes on their distribution.
Overall, the book's very ambitious scope means detail had to be cut back, but it is still a very useful resource and highly recommended.

More like Crystal Grids for Adepts

Melody is probably the most well known expert on crystal properties. The advanced practitioner will probably enjoy this book. This is not her best work for beginners. This is really a book about crystal grids rather than classic laying on of stones. Many of the patterns are rather complex for most practical applications. Very elaborate esoteric grids are probably best suited for really advanced formal metaphysical and crystal practitioners. Many of these Layouts are better when a huge supply of crystals of all kinds is available. Beginners and people who want to learn some simple laying on of stones patterns for work in crystal healing and meditation may not find the information in this book clear enough to follow easily.
If you are an advanced practictioner of esoteric Crystal work or metaphysics then this book may bring you great pleasure. It could become a valued addition to your references. If you are a beginner or prefer plain language You will probably get more value from other books on crystal healing.

One of the worst books about laying on of stones I have seen

I bought this book and ended up returning it. I was unimpressed by the quantity of stones used and felt that it was not well written. I have all of Melody's other Love Is In The Earth books and am very impressed by them but this one was not worth the money. I have a few other books that are much better written. Thanks for listening.

Come, see for your self

I have read some of the other reviews on this book saying that it lacks in many areas. Frankly I fail to see how it could lack at all. Melody presents a manual for the neophyte or adept alike. The volume is filled with many many illustrations of patterns and diagrams for the placement of stones. The author also includes an updated mineralogical appendex which expands on her main book. Also contained in this volume are detailed explaination of major and some minor chakra centers, many beautiful poems and sayings at the start of each chapter and placement of stone diagrams for astrological, planetary, spiral, cross, and many more arrays. There is also a very detailed listing of which stones correspond with what zodiacal signs. How anyone could give this practical and highly usefull book anything less than 5 stars is beyond me.

The best resource for Medicine Clerkship.

This book is probably the best resource available for the medicine clerkship. It is concise and well written. It is divided up into three sections. The first is a discussion of 26 of the most common presentations that beautifully illustrates how to put together your differential diagnosis. This first section I found was extremely helpful when seeing patients on wards or in clinic for the first time. It helped me ask the right questions to patients in order to come of with the most likely diagnoses. It is also remarkably helpful for the shelf exam since maybe 40% of the vignettes deal with these presentations. The second section discusses specific diseases in more detail. Again, these are very well written, with many helpful tables. Nearly every chapter has flowcharts for the management of patients with that particular disease. Since there are many "best next step" questions on the shelf exam, this is very helpful. The last section discusses common topics in ambulatory medicine, such as low back pain, dyslipidemias, and screening and prevention topics. This is very helpful as well since there are always a handful of questions on screening and prevention. Online, there are 34 additional chapters, most of which are useful enough (i.e. likely to appear on the shelf exam) for you to read. There are also a few videos, EKGs and CXRs with explanations of significant findings.

As you can see, there is a ton of stuff this book offers, but really none of it is beyond the scope of what could appear on the shelf exam. Except for the few chapters on psychiatric issues, this book was clearly written to help students like myself not just pass, but ace, the shelf exam. And it excels.

I preferred this book to Step-Up to Medicine (Step-Up Series), the most popular choice for medicine clerkship. Obviously people love that book, but I found the outline format too bothersome and prefer prose when delving into a topic for the first time. Step Up's information on diagnosing and managing conditions could use some work as well. For example, under the "diagnosis" section of many diseases, it would give a laundry list of findings for every diagnostic method under the sun without stating the test of choice. Very annoying.

Another popular book is Internal Medicine Essentials for Clerkship Students 2. This is from the ACP and is definitely the most authoritative book written for clerkship students. The problem is that it only covers the bare essentials. I actually did read a few chapters and found them to be a quick recap after already learning of the topic in hand. If you wanted to use this, I would recommend reading the appropriate chapters after having read the material in another book like Kochar's.

I read most but not all of the material in this book (I didn't find out about this book until a few weeks into the clerkship). I also did MKSAP For Students 4 (MKSAP for Students,Alguire) and got through maybe half of the internal medicine questions on USMLEWORLD. I just took the shelf exam today and felt like I was well prepared for it and would recommend this book and the mentioned question banks to anyone who wanted to do well on this clerkship.

Kochar Clinical Medicine for Students

I only wish i knew about this book sooner. No mistake about it, this IS the bible for all medical students. This would have been perfect for preceptorial sessions and case discussions but i only just found out about it and bought it toward the end of my clinical rotations. Still this is what i will be using for my Step 2 CK. Its only a hundred pages (more or less) more than Step up to IM, but cases are presented in an organized and logical manner. In a way it reminds me of Harrison's, just not two volumes long. The first sections deals with symptomatology and how to approach patients dealing with common presenting symptoms. It also gives an excellent differential list WITH a rationale. This is something most books do not have. The second section is about specific diseases arranged according to organ systems. Although this book does not offer the intricate details for patient management that an internist might be more interesting it. This book provides all the necessary information about internal medicine catered to especially for students. However, personally i think this book isnt just useful for students, its can me used by residents and even attendings as a quick review. This is definitely one of the best books i've ever owned and one that i will be going back to again and again.

Nice book

I used this book for a class I took in differential diagnosis and found it to be quite useful. It had information that wasn't in the Lange Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment, which was the main text for the course.
The only problem with the Kindle edition is the lack of an index with page numbers with hyperlinks (there are no page numbers) so you're forced to resort to using the application search function, which can bring up a distracting number of hits if you choose the wrong search term.
