Delavigne and Robertson have made an important contribution to the study of Deming theory, elegantly contrasting it with current thinking. (If the reader has not already discovered,) this book will make it clear that Dr. Deming's work was not simply management theory, but a new and better view of the world

A Profound Book for those who are awake

As the author of Deming: The way We Knew Him, I know something about the subject matter that this book contains. And I can honestly say that it is one that I wish I had wriitten myself.

As we know, the demise of many businesses and organizations is being blamed on current western management practice—which can be traced directly back to the 19th century and Frederick Taylor's theory of scientific management. Although Dr. Deming proposed a new, more modern philosophy of management decades ago (see NBC white paper show: If Japan Can ... Why Can't We?), the western world continued to practice Taylor's philosophy and its decendents. This volume explores the issues of neo-Taylorism -- where it came from and what its beliefs are -- along side Deming's philosophy -- his system of profound knowledge and his 14 points. It suggests how Deming's philosophy, when properly adopted, could be an antidote for today's managerial ineffectiveness.

Furthermore, it shows organization and technical managers how to change using Deming's principles, in order to improve quality in delivered services and products and in employee satisfaction. What I like about it is that it analyzes the flaws of Taylorism and Neo-Taylorism, with point-by-point comparison with Deming's philosophy. It clearly explains the Deming quality philosophy from a conceptual framework that can then be applied, rather than from a recipe or case study format, which has proven to be ineffective.

I highly recommend this book to Executive and Technical Managers, Quality Managers and Practitioners, Quality, Productivity, Organizational Development Consultants -- along with anyone else interested in making a difference in their world of business..

Great book to start with to understand key concepts

Great supplemental book to read in addition to your real estate course.

Let me first start off stating that I and my best friend both purchased an online course for a real estate course on Groupon.
The course itself was terrible and did not go into details key concepts and real estate definitions one would need to know to pass the state exam.

This book was very thorough in all aspects. Please note however it does not go into detail on specific state laws, you would have to research that yourself. This book gives you the much needed fundamentals of real estate, policies procedures, etc.

The read is clear and concise, an easy read. After each chapter you are given a mini quiz and it gives you a detailed explaination on the correct answer. Also, at the end of the book you have a real estate math sections and 3 practice tests with details answers.

I recommend reading this book first before taking your actual course and then re-reading it after your course to get a thorough grasp of the concepts. And also recommend to keep retaking the practice tests.

I passed my state exam but it was extremely hard. I had 157 questions, maybe 15 of the questions were similar questions from all my course notes, the book, online research, and various practice tests that I got from other people.
To answer the rest of the questions on the state exam you really need to apply these real estates concepts and select the best answer of the multiple choice...and the only way you will pass realistically is by understanding these concepts. The questions can be tricky so be sure to reread each questions and understand exactly what they are asking. Using the process of elimination you can often narrow down the answers to two possible answer, but then you would need to select the best answer of the two.

I took the GA state exam and I did get several questions on types of loans like loan assumptions, questions on calculating transfer tax and intangibles tax...which this book helped me to understand.

Wasted money - I stopped after reading only the first ...

Wasted money - I stopped after reading only the first 50 pages or so. The content was too light, fluffy, sarcastic, and I did not think of any real benefit to taking the licensure exam. I did pass the real estate licensure exam, by the way, using only the PSI book provided for the course I took, along with the instructor's insights. My advice would be to not waste your time/money on this book.

Just As Expected.. Shallow And So Typically Self-Absorbed!

Although I certainly didn't expect to read a book that was worthy of the caliber of say, Carole Radziwill, I was hoping to gain a bit of insight on why Ramona is, well the way she is. I will admit through the ramblings of someone whose daughter displays more common sense then she, I did find my answer. Ramona is a self-absorbed, shallow woman who values the material trappings in life more than what truly is important. It also seems that instead of learning valuable lessons from the difficulties she experienced pertaining to her father, all she seemed to derive from that was the importance of making money. I would have thought she would have also learned from his example how to treat others with respect and kindness - something which I have never seen on RHONY. Seems to me she was out to make a quick buck, and with Ramona, talking about herself was the most appealing way to do so.

The adjectives!

If you are a fan of RHONY you need to read this book. It could change your opinion of Ramona. You might even like her (a little bit) when you are done. But the adjectives! Way too many. And they make her sound conceited, vain and egotistical....which I guess she is. A "stainless steel strainer"? Mine is collapsible plastic. She set the table with her "Antique gold Minton china"? If I have over twelve people I use "square shaped black heavy duty plastic" I guess I'm doing it wrong. She did not described her toilets......yet....(I'm only half through the book) But I'm sure they are "luxury gleaming white porcelain". Sadly, mine are just plain white Kohler.

Definitely Recommended to Fans of the Show

I really enjoyed reading Ramona's book. It's conversational and an easy light read. She doesn't give much dirt about the show, but definitely takes us behind the scenes a bunch of times.

What I love about her is you always know where you stand. She often blurts out what she feels, however thoughtless and unfeeling on occasion, but will honestly re-evaluate when she realizes her mistake. And it's completely understandable how she came to be the personality she is when you read about her childhood. Her father's drinking and unpredictable terrorizing would have me in a frequent state of triggered hyperarousal as an adult, too, and that's how she has not infrequently seemed to me on the show--triggered into irrational states of fight or flight.

I was so impressed to learn what a great business woman she's been since she was very young. I never picked that up, the fact that she was actually bringing in more money than Mario before the show started, with her business of selling inventoried merchandise.

Although I have often inwardly groaned when she would say insulting things or act oblivious to other people's feelings, I've always felt she had a big heart and never intentionally set out to screw anyone else over, unlike others on the show who actually sat down and planned how to bring other women down. Ramona never did that. She's just being Ramona and that's who you get in this book.

Definitely recommended for fans of the show.

Great walk through of content, errors in examples & solutions

This is a great book to get you into the new concrete code. Without this book, the ACI code is impossible to follow as an undergrad student. This book. Does. A. Great job of explaining the content of the code and how to apply it. The book also has a lot of example problems, which is great, until you run into mistakes/omissions. The example problems will often leave out units and pull in values without explaining where they came from. Also, when running through the excessive problems, many of the given solutions are incorrect. This makes any student rage when they find out they had the right answer an hour ago, but the book told them they were wrong.

I rented this book brand new, came in about a week (took a little longer than I expected). It was a little expensive for my liking. However, The book was very useful in my Concrete Design class. Really good examples within the book, and its easy to read.

One day you wake up and realize—perhaps to your horror—that your connection to this person has—seemingly overnight—come to constitute a kind of natural fact, like gravity, climate change, tropical hurricanes, and the Montreal winter. And, like all natural facts, it can’t be explained away by simplistic Sex-and-the-City sophistry. We forget this at our peril.

A Gold Mine of Wisdom

It was like unlike something I've ever read before. A collection of real insights that could be deemed philosophical, yet it didn't bore me to death and didn't gleam with academia. These insights felt personal and amicable with a hint of pretentiousness that gave it a feeling of realism. It felt like reading a personal journal at some times, with many down to earth observations but also with many abstract and beatnik references that I'll admit took me a while to understand. Yet, my favorite aspect of the book is how it is written very concisely, with a style that breeds to make every sentence count and feel short and sweet. Within each story in the book, you encounter a tidbit of wisdom that forces you to see life through another's eyes and it kept me awake for many nights, thinking and pondering. When the book is finished, you get to the About the Author page, yet from what you already have read, you feel you already know John as you finish feeling you've been listening to a friend for the past 200 pages.

How would you write a love letter to an intellectual? Written in a warm, engaging and humorous style, Hamer's new book is in many respects an open love letter to a woman of superior intelligence. But it's also a book with a clear moral purpose: to justify love. It's a book that draws you in easily and lets you pause, since it is broken up into short linked chapters that nevertheless stand alone as pieces. It's a book for the metro, or those moments of unpredictable waiting. We think we're on a boat tour, but we're actually just floating. We're not sure where we're going, and in the end we don't care. The thesis of the book is not a destination but an aura: love is worth the effort.
