Great for camping trips if you're out of toilet paper

DO NOT BUY!
This is a pitiful excuse for Prep Material. Never mind the format, which is completely different from the test, I sat and worked AGAINST myself for an hour on the first problem in the book trying to get the answer they did ... only to finally realize the solutions were wrong. I flipped through a few more to find more errors in units, solutions, etc. before I finally threw this book into the recycling bin. I hope it comes back as toilet paper so I can use it more effectively.
Best Advice - Buy the official NCEES Sample Exam, then the PPI Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual and the accompanying materials. They are expensive, but still cheaper than a prep course. Also, some employers will help you if you ask, especially if you hand them over when you're done to start a 'library' for future applicants.

Not a good study aid

I got this sample exam as a part of a PE review course and just took it in preparation for my upcoming test. I did find several math, notation and method errors as I worked through the solutions after taking the test. In most cases I could understand the approach enough to isolate the author's errors, but as a review guide I expect clarity and accuracy in order for it to improve my skills in my weak areas. I did get value out of the exercise of sitting down and taking two 4 hour tests, but that would be true of any sample exam. If I buy another I will look into the NCEES offering.

This book is not totally representative of the NYS PE exam.

This book is not a very good representation of th NYS PE exam as there are a mixture of Imperial and Metric units. Since we use imperial in commercial HVAC, all metric units had to be converted to imperial, worked out, then reconverted to see if you got the right answer. Solution explainations were vague and in a lot of cases, the math was incorrect. The bulk of the problems do not represent everyday engineering scenarios, or are more indicative of once in a career situations. In other words useless. In my opinion, you would be better off purchaseing the six minute solutions book. This is truely compairable to the real PE exam, and the solutions are complete and easy to understand.
